Even if you’ve been weaned on Microsoft Windows, you’ll find the Linux environment easy to use. The preinstalled Linux Xandros presents you with a tabbed desktop interface with intuitive tab headings such as Internet, Learn, Work, Play, Settings and Favorites.
Internet
Clicking on the Internet tab opens the World Wide Web to you. Surf the Internet with the preinstalled Mozilla Firefox, which is quickly becoming the Internet browser of choice. Access your Gmail or Hotmail account by clicking on the Webmail icon. Send instant messages to friends using Pidgin, the multiplatform instant messenger client that supports the most commonly used instant messaging protocols, such as those used by Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo! Learn
Click on the Learn tab to improve your vocabulary, spelling and arithmetic with the educational programs installed. Launch the periodic table and planetarium from the Science icon. Create a wonderful work of art from the Paint program.
Work
OpenOffice is accessible by clicking on the Work tab. Create documents, spreadsheets and presentations. You can even save these in their counterpart Microsoft Office formats – perfect for sharing with your colleagues who are using Microsoft Office.
Play
All work and no play can make you a tired computer user. Asus understands this, so your Asus Eee PC 900 is equipped with applications to keep you entertained. While working on your thesis or typing your evaluation report, why not relax a bit by listening to your MP3 collection? Click on the Play tab to run the Media Player. You can even organize your music by using the Music Manager. When you need to take a break to clear your thoughts, the Asus Eee PC 900 also comes with preinstalled games to amuse you so you won’t have to get up from your computer chair and run to the nearest television – unless of course you want to.
Settings
The Settings tab lets you configure your system. Change your computer date and time. Scan your system for viruses. Adjust your touchpad settings. Install or uninstall applications. You can even update your installed applications from here!
